Birthday Fun!!

Sassy L is 6 years old today! She had her birthday party with school friends last Saturday, but I always want to do something special on the actual day. I'm funny that way.

For months shes been talking about getting her ears pierced. I've explained to her how such a thing is done, and that it will hurt for a short time. She thought about it for quite some time and decided she was going to do it. She was going to get her ears pierced! She wanted "pink diamond earrings".

Then yesterday happened.....

Background: she's been having some tummy troubles of late (that's likely an understatement, but I won't go into the details). Our doctor suggested food allergy testing, which was scheduled for yesterday. I don't know what I thought it was going to be like, but it was worse than I had imagined. They put a drop of liquid on her skin, and proceed to pierce her skin, and then wait to see how she reacts. Lather, rinse, repeat another 25 times and you'll be in the ballpark of what she went through yesterday. Tack on another round of blood work (making that three rounds in the past month).

I likely don't have to explain why the thought of more piercing did not sit well with her just one short day after the allergy testing.

So, no "pink diamond earrings", but we did stop on the way home yesterday and pick up something else...

Meet "Blueberry" the (you guessed it) blue Siamese fighting fish.

Sassy is more than tickled with the new addition to her room. She told me today, "he's like a friend who doesn't have to go home at night!".

We started today out with her favourite breakfast, pancakes with chocolate chips! And opened her presents. You'll notice we're in a very "Tangled" place right now.

...and a new dress which of course she wore to school today!

I picked her up late this afternoon, we ate a quick supper, and off to see Kung Fo Panda 2.

I tucked in a very tired six year old girl tonight. How can she be six? I suppose every year will feel like this as the time continues to fly by. But for tonight, I am thinking back to this very hour six years ago when I finally got to touch my baby girl for the first time.

There's nothing quite like your first...
